Sexual Assault Awareness Month Events

Pouring for PAR - Sexual Assault Awareness Month Kickoff

Each year, April serves as Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout the United States. Every 107 seconds an American is sexually assaulted. At People Against Rape, we are committed to ending the violence in our community and strive to create a South Carolina where sexual violence is no longer tolerated.

Kick off SAAM with us at Holy City Brewing on April 1, 2016 from 4:00-8:00pm. There will be a silent auction full of wonderful foods, activities, and more! Food will also be available for purchase and there will be live music all night. All proceeds from the event will assist PAR in providing direct services to victims and survivors of sexual assault.

Take Back The Night

Since the 1970's, TBTN Events have been held in the United States to bring together those committed to taking a public stand on behalf of sexual assault survivors. Take Back The Night Events have been held in over 30 countries in over 1,000 locations around the world.

This year, TBTN will occur at 7:00pm on April 14, 2016. Participants will meet at the Unitarian Church in Charleston for a half mile March in Downtown Charleston near the CofC Campus. After the March, meet us back at the church for a candlelight vigil, a moment of silence, and a speak-out for victims and survivors of sexual violence. People of all ages, races, religions, backgrounds, and genders are welcome to attend this free event and join us as we work toward a violence-free world.

Survivors' Speak-Out

Join us at Goose Creek City Hall on April 21, 2016 at 7:00pm for a Survivors' Speak-Out. Guest speakers will present statements, poetry, and more to start and finish the event. Victims and survivors of sexual assault will be honored during a candlelight vigil and moment of silence. There will be an opportunity for additional victims to share their own experiences and trials. We invite any and all victims, loved ones, and supporters out to this event to raise awareness and support survivors of sexual violence.
